work in progress

Postby nemopolo on Mon Nov 26, 2007 7:23 pm

typical winter working environment, pitch black and bloody cold!!!

Image

started doing the head gasket today and its not going to bad for once (thats tempted fate).
my mate john and vw heritage both said that the head studs will probably snap when removing the nuts :(
so me and the van had a few words and she decided to be a good little t25 and did'nt snap one :D
i was absolutely cacking it when each one came loose with a couple of loud cracks, but they stayed intact.
with a bit of help from the bronzed one tomorrow it should be off, the thermostat housing bolts a corroded and need to have a socket hammered on to them which is a 3 handed job on your back under a van in the dark.

Image

fitted the new tailgate struts :D no more smacks in the back from a heavy tailgate when you knock the pole out :x

i hate volkswagens

Postby nemopolo on Mon Nov 26, 2007 10:09 pm

she's quick enough with the v dub lump, 2.1 112 bhp. i know its not as much as the scooby but its good enough for me.

scooby!!

Postby nemopolo on Tue Nov 27, 2007 4:36 pm

if its going to have an engine change in the future then there will be only one option to go for, porsche power.
i'd rather bite the bullet and fit a boxter engine and keep true to the faith without going to the dark side.

head removal

Postby nemopolo on Tue Nov 27, 2007 8:22 pm

ive got nothing against scooby engines in v dubs and i admire anyone that takes the time to do the conversion.
i'm just a porsche man, plain and simple.
one day i will own a 911 carrera s, but until that day i will keep myself busy messing with crap vw's.
there was a t25 multi van at bus types last year with a 911 engine in the back and it was better than sex (luckily wifey wont read this).
if you had seen it you might be a convert to the ways of the porsche, plus there was a matching van next to it with a scooby engine in the back.
not sure who did the conversions, they were there advertising with these 2 vans and they were top notch.

anyway getting away from the land of the rising sun, the head is off :P :P
the bronzed god stopped over after work on his way to a tanning salon and we managed to remove it.
without his help and also "funagon" off the samba who resides in the u.s. i would have struggled. funagon posted a link to a description which he wrote on the subject with pics to boot. without it we would have been screwed.

i hoping she will be done by saturday, but i wont hold my breath.
just in time for the new discs and pads to arrive.

i hate vw's

head gasket update, vw heritage are crap!!! ordered a few missing parts on monday with the assurance they will be here on wednesday.
rang today to complain as they had not turned up yet only to be told that they had'nt despatched them yet.
they are moving premises and had'nt found them within all the boxes of spares. they then said it will be next week (tossers).
got my money reimbursed and they should be here tomorrow fingers crossed as the have come from just campers, nice people that they are.

sorry this is a boring thread but you never know oneday someone might need a hand to fix one.

thanks to marv for the help the other night in pulling the head off it fnar fnar and funagon from san francisco who without his help i would be in a right mess with the bloody thing.

the gaskets arrived and i am glad that the majority that i am using have come from the main agents as the ones from jc are crap, and i mean crap. the pushrod tube seals are terrible, with the rubber being twice as soft as the vw ones and the head gasket about the same. no wonder they dont last as long.Image

cleaned the head on the kitchen draining board. em isnt happy as the house stunk of carb cleaner for hours.

Image

it was pretty manky and when this was all scraped off the head surface was badly pitted in places so i filled in the pits with liquid metal then sanded it down smooth.

Image

hopefully it will be on again tomorrow, fingers crossed.

got the disco ball and your right its pure cheese :D :D :D

she's running again at last, yay.
got it all back together yesterday, even working when it was pissing down.
finished it off this morning and then came the moment of truth, will she run?? the answer was a 2 second brum, then a clunk, then nothing. bloody typical!!!
had to borrow a booster as she was winding slow and with a bit of help from that she farted into life and run like a bag of shite for about 5 mins where i got pissed off and shut her down.
5 mins later tried again and she was purring like a well oiled kitten, nice.

she's now gone in to my mates garage to have new discs, pads and bearings in the front (cant be bothered to do it myself) so hopefully she will be at the meet on thursday.
