exhaust pops/stalling

Postby woody on Sun Jan 13, 2008 8:46 pm

so far my 78 bay has been in the garage 3 times (wont mention which one)and they cant seem to solve it.
The engine runs fine mostly and then it starts to 'hunt' (if thats the right word),runs like a bag of spanners and cuts out as soon as the clutch is in.
the problem is its intermittant and cant put it down to any thing specific.
the ideas are vacuum leaks, carb air leaks, exhaust manifold leaks amongst other things.
Ive got it booked in with gasure in Chester ,but they cant look at it till next month.
Any ideas or has anyone had similar problems :?:

hi woody,

it's been pointed out to me earlier on today
that

1) there could be some shite in the carb/carbs

2) the fuel mixture could be out either way (rich/weak)

3) or the timing could be slightly out

we've go a bit of popping and squeaking ourselves

Thanks for that.
In theory the timing and carbs have been set the fist time it went in a couple of weeks ago :!:
I'll have to hold out till it goes to chester and hope it doesnt get any worse cos it gets daily use
Cheers

Hi,
More info required
Does problem only arise when engine is cold.
When engine is both hot and cold.?
What carburettor/s are fitted.
Is thermostat still connected.
Can you see any sign of ice on the carb (even when temperature is above freezing.?
Cliff.
