OCTOBER EVENTS & MORE

Postby No 1 on Fri Oct 02, 2009 2:13 pm

Hi All

Well, now its OCTOBER and the season is drawing to a close – but don’t dismay too much there are still a few more events to attend …….

Firstly, is anyone thinking of going to FINAL FLING this year?? It an ace little show run by the North Devon VW club raising money for the RNLI – let us know if you are attending and we’ll put you in touch with others!!

Likewise, anyone thinking of going to FLAME and THUNDER…….ok so its not a veedub event but we know a lot of Veedubbers go to this one and it is seen as one of the best Santa Pod events of the year – so if your thinking of going let us know….. http://www.santapod.co.uk/e_flame.php

And last but not least on the meet front anyone looking at doing BUSFREEZE this year – this is a new show that has been organised by the same people that do DUBFREEZE – same venue same format – just at the end of the year instead of the start!!.... http://www.busfreeze.co.uk/

Also a gentle reminder that we are trying to organise a Christmas do this year – a survey of what members want from this event have been sent out although we are aware some of you have been unable to access the survey – if this is the case and you would like to input towards the do please send us your ideas on email – we basically want to know what you want to do?? Where you want to go ie…just a meal, camping out?? How far you’re willing to travel?? Etc – your input is appreciated and needed we want this years do to be a good one!!

And finally it has been brought to our attention that a few members are unhappy with the club meet venue and believe it is time for a change……we are happy for this to happen and welcome suggestions for a new venue …things to bear in mind when making your suggestions;
• we need a decent sized car park to accommodate an average of 20 plus vehicles
• we need to keep the venue fairly central as we have members travelling from all over the district
• the pub needs to be relatively quiet on a Thursday evening to accommodate our member numbers
• the pub needs to be of a similar size to The White Lion as this is a large pub
• the pub needs to be drink orientated NOT restaurant style
• pub also needs to be family orientated to accommodate the children in the club
Think that everything covered so we look forward to your suggestions – and hopefully a new venue will be sorted by November meet.

Cheers everyone and thanks for taking the time to read this mail, we look forward to receiving your comments. (I will also be posting a copy of this mail on the forum feel free to feedback to us through e-mail or the forum but the main thing is FEEDBACK!!!)

Take care all and keep dubbin’

I too think the White Lion has run its course - the internal layout and tables layed for dining are not really what we need for "circulating", and somebody was distinctly snotty with us for apparently standing in the wrong place.

Being a newby to Crewe I dont have any pub affiliations - I see Penny has suggested one that I dont know, but sounds OK.

Others I have noticed on my travels that appear to fit the bill in terms of big open plan pubs, with big car parks, in Crewe, are the Merlin and the 8 Farmers. Neither look to be "character" pubs, but as I spend most of my time with Bill and the Dubs in the car park, I 'm not that fussed about character.

Regards
Bruce
