We had a minor catastrophe in Dunpitchin a week last Saturday so I thought I share it with you. As many friends have pointed out this could clearly have happened at any time and we're very fortunate it didn't happen at 60mph on the motorway :(

On Saturday morning (two weekends ago), Marv changed the drive shaft of the passenger side of the van after our encounter with the very nice man the previous weekend. Then he took it out for a test drive.

All went well until he was just coming past the Horseshoe back towards Shav, travelling along at about 40mph and the wheel comes bouncing off on the drivers side! :  NB THIS IS THE OTHER SIDE TO THE ONE HE'S JUST FIXED

The kids and I had gone into town with my Mum and Dad, only to find we drove up to Marv on the side of the road on the way home. Parents proved invaluable and took the kids with them while I waited with Marv. He had already placed a few calls on the batphone and we were waiting for Andy to come and help him get the wheel back on.

Here are a few pics from the side of the road taken with my phone.

Andy turned up and helped cobble things together and limp the van home (with no brakes and by the time it got home, no working engine either  )

Meanwhile, back at the batcave, Nick was searching his magical box of bits and manged to locate everything we need except the backing plate so a new one was ordered from t'interweb.

Marv tinkered with the engine (Having discovered we have a 1.9 TD Seat engine in the back which is bizarre considering we are both Leon drivers and managed to fix the problem (something to do with wires) and we were running again

Hurrah!!

Last Saturday morning Marv was out bright and breezy ready to get stuck in:

Not too bad at all this end

This bit was squashed by the loose wheel on it's way out and should have been lovely and straight

The rain wasn't terrible but I thought I should cover the work area - shame the tree got in the way and it was only suitable for little people!!

Marv had done all this by 2pm ish when it went toddling down the road to AP Autocare where Marv, Nick and Andy indulged in some swearing heavily while they replaed the relevant parts (including sorting out the brakes - of which it did have almost none due to the major leakage!)

So a massive THANK YOU to Nick and Andy who have been invaluable!!

Temporarily back together as Marv has announced that we will be taking the whole side off to have another poke about when it's sunny.

And now we're back on the road and ready to camp this weekend at Ironbridge (not too far in case something else drops off - NOT THAT IT WILL, MARV!!! )

What will be has been, so don't worry, it'll be fine
